Here are a few things to understand about the role of mentoring. Most of us have had a teacher, supervisor, family member, family friend or coach who has been a mentor to us and made a positive difference in our lives. These people often wear many hats such as delegators, role models, cheerleaders, policy enforcers, advocates, and friends. Mentors assume these different roles during the course of a relationship, and share some basic qualities:
  • A sincere desire to be the change you want to see
  • A passion to take on the challenge
  • Respect for young people
  • Patience
  • Empathy
  • Ability to see solutions and opportunities
Above all, a good mentor is willing to take the time to get to know their mentee, to teach new things that are important to the development of  young people.
There will be photos and videos taken at all Race 4 Excellence functions. This media is used for promotion and advertising of Race 4 Excellence programing.
